Season 1 is really good, season ... season 3 was a struggle and I didn't bother with season 4... A post-apocalyptic thriller set in near-future Brazil, where a select few are allowed to join a privileged society after undergoing an intense and competitive process. The show does get better. It is not perfect. It takes a while to get you hooked and it has a lower budget than other Netflix series. But overall, it is a clever and great series, with good themes, complex and grey characters, and an intriguing plot. It is a dystopian YA thriller with a lot of depth. At least, that is the case for seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 was a disappointment, which is the reason why I did not rate this show higher.Season 4 was intense and complex, and a great conclusion to this great tv show that will always be on my Netflix list Definitely Recommend It ... There's plenty to recommend this low-budget, futuristic Portuguese- Brazilian 8-episode SciFi teleseries. It has a gripping plot, the characters have plenty of magnetism and the situation of poverty versus privilege will ring true with many. It's about a futuristic, real-life competition designed to choose the optimum 3% of new adults, who deem their skills sufficient to "pass" a truly grueling selection process.I don't think I ever watched another Brazilian show before so to me this was a first and I can't say I'm disappointed about the quality of 3%. It has a good interesting plot, with enough twists and turns to keep you interested. I watched the first two seasons in less than a week and never got bored.Story development is excellent, the characters are deep and refreshingly multi dimensional. Can't wait for season 3. ... Started off as a three-part webseries first released to YouTube, then Netflix bought its rights to make a full season. I think to myself 'Hm, that's an interesting title' and without hesitation I clicked on the link. I really had no expectations and didn't even bother reading the plot. Immediately the cinematography caught my attention. The show had a unique style with the camera angles, lighting and theme.The story is what really kept me into the show and I was hyped up for the last episode. The ending was amazing and I hope the story continues on for a second season. ... There's plenty to recommend this low-budget, futuristic Portuguese- Brazilian 8-episode SciFi teleseries. It really gets entertaining as you watch. The actors and plot are great and the history is quite original (besides some elements from other shows). I watched the full season in 3 days or less.
Despite its well-tread premise, the diverse Brazilian Netflix drama proves dystopian TV doesn’t have to be laser-focused on suffering to be worth a binge But the irresistibility of the show lies its execution rather than its novelty. From its diverse and savagely talented cast to its interest in character development and empathy over mind-bending sci-fi concepts, 3% is far more effective — and addictive — in this era than most of its predecessors and current rivals in the dystopian space.In that Handmaid’s Tale conversation last month, I wrote that “the most effective [dystopian] horror often lies in all the gray areas … if the ‘in-group’ part of a dystopia doesn’t seem at least slightly attractive to you — even Fahrenheit 451 featured a world that actively was working to end inequality, just went about it in all the wrong ways — it’s probably not going to be that powerful a story.” On 3%, nothing is ever black and white, and this nuanced storytelling also ends up meaning that nothing is ever 100% terrible for anybody. Unlike the relentless misery of a show like The Handmaid’s Tale or early seasons of Black Mirror, there’s always hope or relief to be found somewhere in 3%’s narrative web at any given time.Sometimes that relief is dangerous — the Offshore is seductively idyllic — which is part of what makes the show more compelling than its contemporaries. Unlike, say, Westworld, where outside factors constantly impinge on its smaller world, 3% is functionally self-contained.3%, a Netflix-produced Brazilian thriller series that recently dropped its second season, is one exception to this trend. It manages to buck many of the genre’s biggest narrative pitfalls, making this underrated series one of the most diverse, addictive, and refreshing dystopian stories of its era. The show’s premise is familiar, if not downright cliché: It takes place in a future São Paulo not far removed from some of the most crowded, impoverished favelas of today’s Brazil.

It ranked No. 2 on the list of “most devoured” shows, meaning most people watched at least two hours of it per sitting.I reached my breaking point with 3% halfway through the show’s eight-episode first season. 3% is what you get if you take Lost and strip away everything that made the story of the Island and the castaways interesting.The show is obviously setting up a long-term payoff by the way the story is structured, but playing coy with the details ends up burning the creative team because none of it is particularly compelling. At eight episodes, with more on the way, it’s an easy binge. I stumbled upon this Brazilian dystopian sci-fi on U.S. Netflix during lockdown last year. With the success of Squidgames, I thought it would be worth making a post about 3% on this sub. Personally I thought it was a very well written show with a strong moral compass and plenty of twists and turns to keep the story interesting.The initial shows that they dubbed in English were pretty terrible.
